5. Josephine Wiggs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGXE7AF_sK4 The fifth spot on this list could easily be designated to any number of women. Sean Yseult (White Zombie), Nikki Monninger (Silversun Pickups), Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle, Zwan, The Entrance Band) and many more have had excellent careers and proven themselves to be very formidable bass players. However, there is one woman who, largely due to a very iconic bass line, has cannonballed her way onto this list. Josephine Wiggs played bass in the alternative rock band The Breeders, along with Kim Deal of Pixies and Tanya Donnelly of Throwing Muses (later replace by Kim's sister, Kelley Deal). Josephine brought an excellent, somewhat laid-back, surf punk style to her bass lines, which matched marvellously with Kim's alternative pop style. Known best for the hit single "Cannonball," Josephine was an integral part of The Breeders' sound and went on to release several albums with a variety of bands. Key Tracks: 1. Cannonball 2. Safari 3.
