5 Bands That Are The New Faces Of UK Heavy Metal

3. Sylosis

What were you doing when you were 15? Well, Josh Middleton was forming a band that were building riffs that would would make Five Finger Death Punch sound like Blur. The band in question was Reading's Sylosis, a progressive melodeath powder keg that after a fair few lineup changes have solidified themselves as one of the most consistent metal bands going.

Spending their early days touring with big metal names such as The Black Dahlia Murder and the ghosts of Guitar Hero past: DragonForce, the band were able to overcome the dreaded of all band lineup changes; the loss of their lead singer.

After Jamie Graham left to eventually form Heart of a Coward, Middleton assumed the dual role of lead guitarist and frontman and Sylosis released the massive Edge of the Earth and Monolith in quick succession with Monolith featuring 'Out From Below', which was described by MetalSucks as "the best Metallica riff that Metallica never wrote".

From here, the band toured with some of metal's heavyweights including Lamb of God, Hellyeah, In Flames, As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage.

As of April 2017, Sylosis are taking a break from the world conquering and are currently on a short hiatus as Middleton has offered to step in and help buds Architects in the guitar department following the tragic passing of their axeman Tom Searle.

Rest assured though, Sylosis have said that they will be returning to the studio soon to layeth the smacketh down for a new album, probably at the end of Architect's current tour cycle.
