2. While She Sleeps
If you like your music backed by old school ideologies and hard work, then look no further than one of Sheffield's latest and finest exports. Forming out of secondary school, While She Sleeps have been a force to be reckoned with since the get-go, securing a Sonisphere Festival performance, a BBC Radio 1 performance and a headline UK tour all on the back of their debut mini-album The North Stands For Nothing, supported by strong contemporaries in Bury Tomorrow and Feed the Rhino
With so much media attention surrounding their debut release, they would be forgiven for cracking under the pressure for their first full-length however this was not the case as This Is the Six took any such speculation and kicked it in the nuts, producing an excellent metallic hardcore album that was rewarded with big tour dates with Download Festival, Warped Tour, Asking Alexandria, Parkway Drive, Architects and more.
Things weren't perfect though as the extensive touring had all-but destroyed vocalist Loz Taylor's vocal cords and he required surgery, putting the band on a break.
The band came back stronger than ever with the crushing Brainwashed album that garnered much critical acclaim and things looking pretty much perfect for the quintet. However they decided to up their game even more by building their own bloody studio and leaving their label.
They then gave fans the chance to finance the album via PledgeMusic and split their time between purpose-building their own studio (which is just a maddening feat) and recording their new, eagerly-awaited album You Are We. What is in the water in Sheffield? Rocks and chest hair?
