5 Criminally Overlooked Indie Bands You Need To Love

2. Common Rider

I'll preface this by saying that this is probably my favourite band of all time. Beating out The Clash, Pavement and The Dandy Warhols, Common Rider would be no 1 if it weren't for the colossal entity that I had no choice but to dub first.

Being described as a combination of The Clash and Sublime is certainly no disservice, but it is a poor comparison for a band that produced some of the most original and brilliant music of the 90s and 00s. With only 2 albums, an EP and a combination album with Against All Authority, Common Rider nevertheless brought with them a daringly new vibe. They are most well known for being the largest project that Jesse Michaels was involved with after Operating Ivy. If that sentence made no sense to you, then you have some serious Googling to do. Regardless, as with all the entries on this list, a song and a few paragraphs are not justice. Though they broke up in 2003, Common Rider commanded the respect of their fans, and the underground music scene. While their profile has only increased since then, it seems a shame that they have always been mostly obscure.

Well, not if I have anything to do with it.
