4. Micah P. Hinson - Dyin' Alone
If you've ever watched Skins then you've listened to Micah P. Hinson. His brand of gravel-voiced melancholia was featured numerous times in series 1 and 2, exclusively at moments of strife and emotional peril. A song with the title Dyin' Alone could so easily have sunk into unlistenable emo tosh. Micah avoids this by keeping the song as simple as possible. The idea itself is about as sad and as universal as it gets; a fear inherent within the best of us. All Micah does is pen two short verses. It's in the sparsity of the words that the fear is so powerfully expressed. There's simply nothing left to say.
Bleakest moment - the idea itself.
