5 Great Bands With Only One Studio Album
4. Mother Love Bone
As hair metal died out, something was rising up from the Pacific Northwest that would become the sound of rock music to come. The sound would have dark undercurrents and a wildly eccentric frontman who was outspoken in his beliefs. And that band was...Mother Love Bone.
Jokes aside, this band was the best grunge band that were marred by tragedies. The band's instrumentation had a distinctive groovy sound that was made for arenas and frontman Andy Wood possessed an unbeatable charisma that felt like a Freddie Mercury for Generation X. Unfortunately, their flame would be snuffed out when Andy Wood died of a heroin overdose just before the release of their debut record Apple.
With the band uncertain as to where to go next, many members abandoned the project. However, the story did have a silver lining in the end. When ex-members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard began scouting for singers, they found another captivating frontman in Eddie Vedder and started the band Pearl Jam.
When grunge exploded, Pearl Jam became massive stars and Mother Love Bone ended up falling by the wayside. In hindsight, Apple stands as a great 90's time capsule and a look at what could have been grunge's first breakout band.
