5 Great Bands With Only One Studio Album

2. Them Crooked Vultures

During a break from the Foo Fighter's world, supermusician Dave Grohl got together with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme to form a new group. While Grohl had worked with Homme before on Queens releases, the pair decided to seek out the help of John Paul Jones, the bass player and secret weapon behind the mighty Led Zeppelin.

Across their debut, the trio play to each others strengths, with Grohl bringing a thunderous rhythm that fit in perfectly with Homme's guitar tone. On songs like "Dead End Friends" and "New Fang," Homme's laid-back is equal parts seductive and dangerous as slides up and down the melody. Like in Zeppelin, Jones helps make the songs jump with his inventive basslines and along with keyboards and mandolin. These additional instruments really help to fill out the sound and give their respective songs a bit of an eclectic twist.

While the Them Crooked Vultures was a satisfying endeavor for all involved, each member decided to leave the project as is and return to their respective groups. For as little as they gave us, what we were left with was the greatest mix of alternative and hard rock that has ever been made in the 2000's.
