5 Musicians That Need To Shut Up And Sing

1. Liam And Noel Gallagher

Oasis are one of the most popular bands to come out of the 90s Britpop scene but in recent years have been relegated to typically moaning old men. Not a month goes by where you don't see an NME "news" story that basically boils down to Liam or Noel having a pop at another famous person or each other. Like Kanye, the brothers have a tendency to run their mouths first and clean up later. This has resulted in numerous occasions over the years where they have said something controversial and later regretted it. Publically at least. Their public persona was very much that it was "cool to be lad" throwing two fingers up to the world at every opportunity. Over time they have often passed the buck and refused to take blame for certain actions. They blamed a lack of success in America on the audiences not being smart enough, not accounting for the fact that maybe it just wasn't their cup of tea. At times they claimed they had nothing to do with the feud with Blur, the whole thing being fabricated by Blur's people and the NME. This is despite the fact that Oasis themselves would publically insult Blur including Noel doing an interview where he wished that Damon Albarn and Alex James would catch AIDs and die. Additionally, brotherly love is not a concept the two are familiar with. The two have had a number of massive bust-ups over the years including a huge fight during the recording of "(What's the Story?) Morning Glory." At times they have been dangerously close to descending into Axl Rose type absurdity, most notably in 1996 when Liam backed out of an MTV Unplugged performance at the last minute. Noel was left to do all the vocals himself with Liam claiming a sore throat. He then spent the performance heckling the band from a balcony. After officially splitting up, Liam accepted an award on behalf of the band at the 2010 Brit Awards. He thanked everyone but his brother then threw the award into the audience, prompting presenter Peter Kay to respond, "What a knobhead." In his end of 2013 rant, Noel Gallagher took aim at the likes of Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, claiming they should concentrate on their music and forget about all the drama. Speaking of the two he urged them, "Be good! Don't be outrageous." Hopefully he'll soon start taking his own advice as rumours are rife that he and his brother Liam have recently kissed and made up once more. Not surprising since their own bands, "Beady Eye" and "High Flying Birds" have failed to get even close to the heights that Oasis did and a reunion could bring big money for the pair. Perhaps they should take a queue from their old rival Damon Albarn who has quietly continued to keep releasing good music and keep the nonsense to an absolute minimum. Either way if we are due an Oasis reunion in 2014, let's hope they stick to the hits from their back catalogue instead of resorting to hitting each other again.
