1. Weezer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWymbWBpqsg My soul. My inspiration. My life. Weezer. I know I am starting this one off a little biased but if you were a teenager in the 90's, it was hard to not relate to Weezer. Fronted by former hermit and closeted shredder Rivers Cuomo, Weezer gives the listener a firsthand experience at being awkward or an underdog. Their debut 1994 debut, "The Blue Album", was a cornucopia of geek life. Whether it was the sad "Undone - The Sweater Song" (which is almost universally misunderstood) or "Buddy Holly" and its "Happy Days" inspired music video, that album had something for everyone. It's outright most geekiest moment is without a doubt "In the Garage" which includes mentions of Kiss posters, Dungeons & Dragons, and X-Men. The follow up to that album was suppose to be an epic space-opera but that was eventually scrapped. However, a few songs would make onto 1996's raw and personal "Pinkerton". In the latter half of their career, they've made a music video with the Muppets, released a song called "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)", which sounds as big and bombast as its title, and released an album called "Hurley" which featured a cover with face of, you guessed it, Hurley from the TV show "Lost". Lately they have been touring the world with their "Memories" tour which has the band playing their first two albums in full. Hopefully they begin working on some new music and retain their crown of Geek Rock Gods (proclaimed by me). Did I leave any of your favorite Geek Rock bands out? Feel free to mention them in the comments section!
