Joe Perry once described Aerosmith as "druggies dabbling in music, rather than musicians dabbling in drugs" with Tyler added that "We snorted half of Peru. It's what we did.", and throughout the seventies and eighties, the band seriously lived up to that description, but still came out with some of the bluesiest rock and roll known to music. Their most successful, and most creative, albums were recorded during this period, such as Toys in the Attic. The Toxic Twins, as Tyler and Perry came to be known, were the chief songwriters of the band, and once they (and the rest of the band) sobered up, their creativity declined significantly, resulting in the band needing to bring in outside songwriters to help orchestrate their comeback. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82cJgPXU-ik
