Taking from his 1979 self titled album, Bambi is a four minute long hard rocking masterclass in efficiency. From its opening riff it takes two full minutes for the drums to catch up and become the pulse of the song.

Without the vocals, Bambi plays more like a 1970’s Rush effort, with the biting into riff that works its way into the bridge that sings with melodic picking.

But this is a Prince song and vocals are always important, including here where they push Bambi toward its full potential with Prince’s raw falsetto juxtaposing the knife cutting riffs that carry the tune.
