In 1995 under his “Love Symbol” moniker, Prince released his seventeenth studio album, The Gold Experienced. It was a critical and commercial success with leading single “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World '' peaking at number 3 on the US singles charts. But it was the mammothly long (7:23 to be exact) “Gold” that steals the show and acts as the album's finale.

From its gospel opening, its dramatic synth underscore, poppy rhythm section to Prince’s straight forward vocal, this record packs a unique punch. But it isn’t until the two minute mark that his guitar’s subtly thunders under the vocals leading in to the chorus, foreshadowing the solo to come.

With “Gold” quickly becoming the musical “overbooked” version of an overbooked wrestling match with two minutes remaining in the song, Prince as usual goes completely against convention and lays a power guitar solo over-top of the pop-gospel stylings and pulling the whole song into a tight cohesive ballad.
