Prince's 2007 studio album, Planet Earth may possibly be the most criminally overlooked output of his illustrious career. Although the album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, that was largely due to his rabid and loyal fanbase and not any heavy radio rotation.

He did release the lead track “Guitar” in conjunction with Verizon, but the album did not gain any traction, which is a shame because one of his all time riffs came on the title track, “Planet Earth”.

“Planet Earth” starts off a subdued and melancholy plea to save us from ourselves. It's as much a plea to save the Earth as it is humanity and our souls. But starting off an album with such strong religious overtones and heavy content can be a big risk for anyone. Well anyone not named Prince.

The thumping song rolls at a decent pace for a melody heavy piece but really comes into its own and blows the listener away with one of the greatest riffs of his career at about the five minute mark and never relents.
