Love it or loathe it, emo was one of the most inescapable genres of the 2000s. Although not exactly spawned by this album, it's hard to imagine the movement gaining quite as much traction without the influence of Blink-182's self-titled LP. Mark, Tom and Travis were pop-punk's silliest sons for much of the 90s, but turned their goofy smiles upside down for their fifth studio album. Gone were the house parties, prank calls and first dates, replaced instead by abstract lovelorn lyrics and a more experimental instrumentation. Decade Defining Track: I Miss You
