9. The White Stripes - Elephant

After the success of White Blood Cells, The White Stripes' long-awaited follow up continued along the same lines - hard-rocking blues based around Meg's primally simple drumming and Jack's furious guitar manipulation. Elephant can be seen as a slightly refined upgrade to White Blood Cells, and although many prefer the rawer, fresher sound of the earlier LP, there's no doubting which had the more lasting influence on the 2000s. Poppier efforts 'The Hardest Button to Button' and 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' made the band at home in the public eye, while 'Seven Nation Army' has become maybe the most enduring track of the entire decade.
