50 Definitive Beastie Boys Songs

20. Jimmy James

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw5i7TPkYfI There isn't anything immediately special about this track, but it is one of those cases where all the little things come together and make a great song. Intended as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, "Jimmy James" employs a funky bassline, uplifting lyrics and some really great scratching. The Beasties couldn't get the Hendrix sample cleared in time for Check Your Head, but were able to use it for the music video and it has since been put out on various releases. Stand out line: "Bass from the back of my car feels soothin'/Eight bazookas is what I'm using"

19. Body Movin'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs_rFPHEoIQ STEEL DRUMS! Very few songs can get me more pumped than this one. This is what dance music should sound like. The Beasties ooze energy off this track from 1998's Hello Nasty. The official music video uses a Fatboy Slim remix which is equally great. Stand out line: "And if you ask me, turn up the bass/And if you play defender, I could be your hyper space"

18. Get It Together

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zT8fuO02gk The second single off of Ill Communication, "Get It Together" features Q-Tip from the group A Tribe Called Quest. While it sounds like a prototypical hip hop song from the mid 90's, it is its funky beat and humorous word play that separates the track from every other rap song out there. It's also catchy and almost impossible to not rap along to once you know the all the words. Stand out line: "Gotta do it like this like Chachi and Joanie/'Cause she's the cheese and I'm the macaroni"
