50 Worst Number Ones Of All Time

10. Sam And The Womp: Bom Bom (2012)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qsy7kJyizoc This song would function so much better without the obnoxious vocalist. It€™s one of the single most irritating features in music. Is it supposed to be ironic? I don€™t know. It€™s just a mess. I could go on for hours about how rage inducing this song is, but objectively speaking, it€™s not a very good. It€™s overly repetitive, and the shouty vocalist is very jarring against the production. They don€™t complement each other at all. Along with the sheer lack of variation in lyrics, you€™ve got yourself one recipe for disaster... well you would think. This list is, after all, about worst number ones, so someone must have been buying it.

9. DJ Casper: Cha Cha Slide (Part 2) (2004)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZv62ShoStY Admittedly, it would be harsh of me claim that this barely qualifies as a song... but to be fair, it sounds like something that belongs as a backing track to a Davina McCall workout DVD. There€™s no singing involved whatsoever and probably worst of all, it€™s not even catchy. DJ€™s in clubs often play songs such as €˜Saturday Night€™ and €˜Macarena€™, which also come with a dance routine. But if you strip away that dance, they€™re still songs. This song is a gimmick, an oversaturated interpretation of Simon Says. You may be inclined to partake in the €˜Cha Cha Slide€™ if it comes on, but that doesn€™t mean it€™s a good song. Not by any means.

8. McFly: Don€™t Stop Me Now / Please, Please (2006)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuEprxvR-9s It sounded like they were having a real good time while recording this, but that doesn€™t mean it was a great song. Many people believed McFly to have ruined a Queen classic, but taking it as its own song, it€™s not even that good. The vocals sound incredibly strained and it€™s a bit too shouty to be taken seriously. As for €˜Please, Please€™, it was your trademark McFly song, but definitely not one of their best. I say that, but you€™d be inclined to completely forget this song even existed. It was shunted to the back of their discography, where it rightfully belonged.

7. Cher Lloyd: Swagger Jagger (2011)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdbyG2MrBHk I€™m ashamed to say I actually liked this at one point. Cher Lloyd was one of the most polarising acts ever on The X-Factor, a reputation she maintained with her debut release. She takes risks; you€™ve got to admire that. But this was a total, self-indulgent mess. The production was all over the place, and when combined with her aggressive half shout, half rap verses, she had successfully created one of the most irritating songs of all time. But then she must have realised how terrible this song was, as when launching her album campaign in the United States, she opted not to realise this. Probably a wise decision in the long run, as this song did nothing for her credibility.

6. JLS: The Club Is Alive (2010)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiunXTVBOe0 JLS had just come off a very successful album campaign, with their catchy R&B-esque tunes and boy band charm. And then... they tossed that all away with this monstrosity in what can only be described as the world€™s greatest love affair with auto tune. €˜The Club Is Alive€™ is a horrible song. I€™m not being overdramatic, it is possibly one of the most rage inducing songs known to man, simply for being so awful. It€™s not even catchy, a saving grace for most terrible songs. There are no redeeming features at all. It pretty much signalled JLS€™ downfall, as they traded all sense of credibility for generic trash.
