2. Her Spiritual Connection With Her Fanbase
What is an artist without their fans? Nothing. Gaga's fans, or 'the Little Monsters' as they're called, are just as important as her as she is to them. The closeness of Gaga to her fans has enabled them not to simply admire her but they identify with her too. To them, she is not just a star but a mother figure and a fellow sufferer - someone they can relate too. She was bullied at school and so were they. By playing her music, the fans escape everyday life and listen to someone who truly understands what they go through. Meeting outside the hotels where Gaga stays is a great way for fans to make friends who know what it's like to be bullied and who have the same 'passion'. As one fan put it, "She's taken every single underdog who was insecure, put them in the limelight and made them be proud of themselves." This is shown in the lyrics of Born This Way where she reaches out to sections of the community who may feel excluded because of their sexuality, colour or disability. "Whether life's disabilities, Left you outcast, bullied or teased, Rejoice and love yourself today, 'Cause baby, you were born this way, No matter gay, straight or bi, Lesbian, transgendered life, I'm on the right track, baby, I was born to survive No matter black, white or beige, Chola or orient made, I'm on the right track, baby, I was born to be brave" In this song and in her relationship with her fans, Lady Gaga has become a defender of the bullied and oppressed.
