Ed Sheeran has gained a great reputation, on YouTube anyway, for his cover songs. It seems he can make any song his own, featuring on live versions of other artists' tracks and doing his own (beautiful covers of songs such as Wonderwall, Empire State Of Mind, We Found Love, Cannonball, Hallelujah and Feeling Good). This all comes after featuring covers on his early records, including The Wayfaring Stranger and The Parting Glass. But Sheeran's whole first album was original material, and with the sheer amount of written material for the second, this brings the conclusion that his second album will be the same. It makes no sense for Sheeran to write over 120 songs, both alone and in collaboration with artists such as Foy Vance, only to put other people's songs on his own record. This doesn't mean that he won't be playing any of these covers on his upcoming tour, having played his own version of Nina Simone's Be My Husband on several gigs during the last tour, as well as frequently collaborating with other artists either on the road or at festivals (allegedly playing on every stage at V Festival 2012). So if you're a big fan of his covers, don't hold your breath but don't uncross those fingers either!
I'm a British filmmaker (or, at least, trying to be) and about to graduate with a Film Studies degree. Most of the time I should spend working is actually on Netflix so I obviously have loads of life experience to share with you lovely people.
