3. Iron Maiden - Remember Tomorrow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fx_SuGJ0Ag Iron Maiden are legends. Simple as, nuff said, end of. Their self-titled debut record is one of the greatest debut albums of all time, and helped formulate the future of heavy metal. I could of picked a number of great tracks off this debut album, but Remember Tomorrow is for me the absolute quintessential early Maiden song. There is a slight caveat in this, former singer Paul Di'Anno has toured regularly playing this song, but I'm being anal. Technically Iron Maiden last played this song in 2005. Words cannot describe this song. An epic six minute song, changing pace, developing, galloping and generally choke-slamming all who cross its path. Starting slow, the verse is almost haunting with Di'Anno's fantastic vocals, the classic twin-guitar sound on top of the deep, driving, slow bassline. "Unchain the colours/ before my eyes,/Yesterday's sorrows/Tomorrow's white lies/Scan the horizon/The clouds take me higher/I shall return/From out of the...." And then the chorus explodes into you ears, the guitars beef up, and Di'Anno emphatically screams the word "FIRE!!!". The song strides powerfully before reaching the middle eight, where it becomes a faster, more technical animal, cracking along at pace before an unbelievable guitar solo kicks in. It's a real thing of beauty, Dave Murray performs one of the best solo's of the early 80's. Falling back into verse chorus before the (once again) epic crescendo, Di'Anno's voice soars with the guitar, and finishes with a boom. With Di'Anno touring, and Maiden having enough classics post-Di'Anno to fill 40 setlists, it's understandable that Dickinson and the boys don't tend to play this song. But I wish they did more...here's a bonus live Dickinson-vocals version of Remember Tomorrow, to help make up your mind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7xiwYoPXLs
