7 Best Female Musicians To Debut In the Last 5 Years

3. ZZ Ward

Zz Probably the least known artist on the list, Zsuzsanna "ZZ" Ward released her debut EP Criminal in May 2012. Five months later she debuted her first album Til the Casket Drops to much critical acclaim. The first single - Put the Gun Down - is a phenomenal track that combines rock, blues, jazz, and soul into a firework of musical explosiveness. ZZ's vocals are powerful and actually sound similar to Adele. However, she has shown a great deal of range in her voice that outshines even Adele herself. The energy displayed within Ward's music is exceptional, but she shows a great deal of restraint as well. Slower songs such as Last Love Song show that Ward has a tender side underneath it all; tracks like Better Off Dead manage to be upbeat while relying on a slower, cooler tempo. It's really quite unfortunate that Ward hasn't achieved international success like previous entries on the list as she is far more deserving of fame than acts like Lady Gaga and Rihanna. While critics praise their style and artistry outside of their music the actual music falls short. ZZ Ward has both style and musical artistry going for her, and we can only hope she begins to garner the recognition she deserves. If ZZ's vocals and lyrics aren't enough for you then perhaps her guitar playing will be. Ward is a multi-talented musician deserving of your attention. If you enjoy indie music or have a hankering for the blues or even if you just love great music definitely give ZZ Ward a chance. She's a wonderful change to the constant pop that is being overplayed on the radio, and will wow you with her artistic prowess.
