7 Musical Comebacks That Failed Spectacularly

1. Guns N Roses

The granddaddy of all failed comebacks, Axl Rose and his bandmates (which he insists on referring to as Guns N Roses, despite a lack of anything that resembles that band) were supposed to make 1999 their year with an epic album called Chinese Democracy. Flash forward nearly a decade and hundreds of delays, dozens of rotating band members, and a lead singer who was quickly reaching Howard Hughes levels of reclusiveness, and there was finally a new "Guns N Roses" album. Granted, it had a personnel list longer than an iTunes user agreement, but hey, they got the thing done and now people could hear a truly visionary record! But there were more lawsuits than there were tracks on the album, with everyone suing everyone else over anything that could be remotely attached to the record. It made things messy and delayed the album even more. Surprisingly, none of this helped with the album's publicity. By the time people got around to listening to the album, they were either too fatigued by all the surrounding drama or simply couldn't appreciate Rose's self-proclaimed brilliance. Major retailers ended up selling the album at a bargain bin price to try and move their excess copies. There are currently no plans for a new album.
