7 "Rockstars" That Kanye West Is A Bigger Rockstar Than
3. Pete Doherty
The Libertines ‘bad boy’ had it all: fame, fortune, an army of French Revolutionary-looking fans in Sambas, the supermodel girlfriend, a drug habit, a reputation that would have been terrible for a mere mortal, but for the singer/guitarist in what were the most exciting new band at the time, it was brilliant.
Of course, he squandered his fortune on drugs (that he presumably added to cheesecake and ingested that way) that led to incidents such as him breaking into band mate Carl Barat’s flat while the band were in Japan without him in 2003 and being arrested. In fact, Doherty has been arrested 21 times and has checked himself into rehab repeatedly. The man’s drug habit was intense well before he found fame and The Libertines gave him another avenue to find and finance his habit.
Drugs and fame go hand in hand and often the measure of a ‘star’ is how he or she handles their class As. The only drug Kanye West has ever spoken about taking (in his music or interviews) is weed. West doesn't tick the drugs box, which doesn't make him less of a rockstar. The simple fact of the matter is that Kanye West does not need a drug habit. The idea of him on cocaine is an absolutely terrifying prospect and he's just too damn precious for crack.
Doherty has been continually destroyed by his addiction and, as a result has all but faded into obscurity after a series of increasingly uninspiring musical projects, until The Libertines reformed earlier this year.
