7 Single Songs That Almost Make Their Albums Worth The Cost

4. Alice In Chains - Get Born Again

Album: Nothing Safe: Best of the Box

The end of 1998 into 1999 was an exciting time for Alice in Chains fans as the group ended an unexplained period of minimal activity in the lead-up to their forthcoming Music Bank box set.

Though the individual members were not necessarily dormant following the release of their eponymous third album in 1995, their collective future became less uncertain when Get Born Again hit the airwaves and was subsequently released as the opening track on Nothing Safe: Best of the Box.

Continuing the band’s stride toward sludgier material, Get Born Again was another notch in a small but stellar catalog that highlighted what made Alice in Chains among the better, if not THE best (I will fight you on this), of the grunge movement: dark, heavy guitar work strengthened by the low-end accompaniment and the naturally harmonious interaction between vocalists Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell.

It was a promising look at what they had accomplished and could accomplish yet, but history would prove that hope to be short-lived.
