8 Alternative Christmas Songs For Alternative Folk

1. The Pogues - Fairytale Of New York

Okay, okay, look, I'm only far too well-aware of the groans and moans that this choice is going to incur, but it's just so damn unbeatable! And any song that can bring together all spectrums of Christmas celebration with an opening line about sobering up in a drunk tank is always gonna be alright by this guy.

And so, I say to you, whether you're "a bum or a punk, or an aul sl*t on junk", do what you need to do to be happy this Christmas. The "fairytales" we often appear to flaunt on the outside seldom reflect how we actually feel on the inside from day to day, so be kind - not only to others, but to yourselves, and however you feel like celebrating this time of year.

Merry Ho-Ho!
