3. Madina Lake
Madina Lake were an American alt-rock band that formed in Chicago in 2005. They burst onto the rock scene with their debut album From Them, Through Us, To You which was released in 2007, a record which was warmly received by critics. From Them, Through Us, To You spawned some of the bands most popular singles including Here I Stand, House Of Cards and Adalia, a collection of relatively heavy and aggressive yet tuneful songs that summed up the feel for the vast majority of their music. During a time when most popular rock music seemed to reel back on the aggression in favour of melody, Madina Lake were refreshingly coarse, even when their music featured infectious choruses. On top of that, the band offered a rather curious concept. The band's music is set in a fictional town from the 1950s, a town which is isolated from the rest of the world. This 1950s band writes as a form of frustrated expression, using allegory as a way of commenting on real-world issues. Following From Them, Through Us, To You, Madina Lake recorded 2009's Attics To Eden and 2011's World War III, but by then most had forgotten about them.
