8 Massive Song Cliches Everyone Is Tired Of Hearing

7. Hip-Hop Skits

As mentioned in the title, this is generally a problem when it comes to rap and hip-hop records, but that's not say other genres aren't offenders. A skit is basically a short album track that isn't actually a song. In essence, it's filler, normally featuring some recording of something “natural” or a scripted, dialogue-driven performance (they're usually supposed to be funny, too).

Take Kanye West's latest album The Life Of Pablo, for example. It features Silver Surfer Intermission, a track around forty seconds long that's just a voice mail message to West. It might be interesting to hear the first time, but the vast majority of skits become immediately skippable on all subsequent listens. They're mainly just filler.

Most musicians aren't comedians, too. Most skits are a waste of time, and come across as cringe-worthy. Despite it seeming like they were dying out, Eminem's most recent record The Marshall Mathers LP 2 also features a skit as literally the second track. What's the point? They're just padding, and bring the album down as a whole for being included.
