A sentiment that has been the bread and butter of pretentious music snobs for years, yet one that makes absolutely no sense. The idea that songs played on the radio – aka “mainstream” music – is somehow lesser is slightly insane. For a start, the kinds of people who say this are the kinds who then turn the clock back a few decades and start waxing lyrical about how great music used to be a couple generations ago – despite that music being extremely popular and radio heavy back then.

The truth is, just because something is popular doesn't mean it's garbage. Sure, there's a lot of popular rubbish out there, but there's a lot of rubbish that never gets popular, too. There's absolutely a massive market for catchy, more simplified songs – but songs that follow this form can still be interesting and enjoyable.

Besides, at the end of the day, just because you don't like what one radio station is playing, that doesn't mean all music on the radio is bad. Just listen to a different station...there are so many that cater to so many music tastes that saying “music that's played on the radio is garbage” is just profoundly ignorant.
