8 Music Artists You Wrongly Thought Were One-Hit Wonders

6. Hanson - MMMBop

When it released, MMMBop became the butt of the joke in music circles everywhere. Who do these kids with long shaggy hair think they are singing nonsensical choruses about 'MMMBops'? What even is an MMMbop anyway? This isn't Nirvana!

As catchy, successful pop music often is, the song was ridiculed as being for dumb kids, and the young Hanson were written off as being flavour-of-the month artists whose successful career would probably come crashing down as soon as they hit puberty. Music discourse can be harsh, especially when it comes to kids.

However, it was Hanson themselves who had the last laugh. Not only has MMMBop's continued use probably ensured them enough money to live on for the rest of their lives, but the band has continued to release music and enjoyed plenty of success behind the scenes as well.

The trio have sold over 16 million records worldwide, have courted a rabid fanbase who even recognise a "Hanson Day" (which falls on May 16, fyi), and have gained success in the independent music scene right up to their last release in 2018.

Hanson never disappeared, they just grew up.
