8 Music Artists You Wrongly Thought Were One-Hit Wonders

5. Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen

Come On Eileen is one of the best songs to get drunk to. Everyone knows how it goes, and singing the bridge as it speeds up, arm in arm with a bunch of friends, is as close to pure happiness the human race has ever achieved. Put simply: unlike some of the breakout tracks on this list, Dexy's Midnight Runners' iconic 80s single is a bona-fide banger.

With a song as good as this though, you might be wondering why the Dexys didn't dominate the charts for the rest of the decade, and that's pretty much because the band itself was a volatile hodgepodge of personalities. Co-founder and lead singer Kevin Rowland is the only person who remained in the acts since its conception, as new members were constantly swapped in and out.

As a result, the Dexys have only released three studio albums across the last 39 years, but each one has been a success. Come On Eileen featured on their second release, Too-Rye-Ay, and the band disappeared for decades after its follow-up dropped three years later in 1985. They returned with a new lineup and simply as the 'Dexys' in 2012, and released an album to critical and commercial acclaim.

Consequently, the only reason the band became known as a one-hit wonder is because they essentially stopped being a band shortly after.
