8 Music Artists You Wrongly Thought Were One-Hit Wonders

4. A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)

There's a good chance you'd be able to recognise I Ran (So Far Away) instantly and start singing along, but not be able to name who actually made the tune if your life depended on it. The song itself, featured on Flock of Seagulls' debut album, has become synonymous with 80s indulgence - all keytars, big hair and colourful music videos - partly because of how often it shows up to evoke that same environment in movies and TV.

The single itself was a huge success in its own right, of course, hitting number 9 on the Billboard Top 100, but its staying power over the years is what's cemented it as a genuine 80s classic. Flock of Seagulls are sort of an enigma (hell, I had no idea they were even British before researching this single), but they've always had their fair share of fans that stopped them disappearing after their biggest hit.

They're more remembered for the lead singer's mad hair than any of their other releases, but the band's second album actually performed better than the first despite having fewer big singles. Releasing an album a year between 1982 and 1985, the early part of the decade saw a hugely successful run from the band, but like a lot of the decade's flash-in-the-pan success stories, the late 80s saw them slow down massively, dropping only two more albums afterwards, one in 1995 and another in 2018.
