8 Music Artists You Wrongly Thought Were One-Hit Wonders

3. Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)

Unlike a lot of songs on this list, Dead or Alive's biggest hit, You Spin Me Round (Like A Record), was something of a slow burn. It didn't come out of nowhere, dominate the charts and then burn up the band that made it. Instead, the single was released in 1984, and it wasn't until 1985 when the album it featured on (Youthquake) released that it hit number one in the UK.

In an unprecedented move, it took the track 17 full weeks to climb the charts, and only remained at the top spot for two weeks before being knocked off. However, while the commercial success was lower than some of the other tracks on this list, its position in the cultural consciousness is just as strong, even after it was sampled in a terrible Flo Rida tune.

Despite the track being viewed as a one-hit wonder, then, it actually wasn't much more successful than the band's other singles at the time. All the releases from Youthquake did well, while the follow-up album rocked the boat in England and still achieved a pretty high ranking in the charts.

The band's output waned in the late 80s and 90s, but their legacy was already established, to the tune of 30 million album sales.
