8 Music Artists You Wrongly Thought Were One-Hit Wonders

1. Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart

Billy Ray Cyrus is a bit of an oddity on this list. For the longest time, he could have genuinely been considered to be a one-hit wonder, with his hit single Achy Breaky Heart easily being the peak of his career. It's essentially a novelty song, but its sugary-sweet lyrics and sing-song hook had everyone and their mothers (particularly their mothers, actually) tapping their toes and singing along.

Of course, while the song was a chart success, it was also the butt of every joke about country music in the 1990s, and quickly became viewed as one of the worst songs of all time. It would take him nearly 30 years before he had another hit on the same level, but he did eventually achieve it via a guest verse on someone else's song.

His second major claim to fame (not counting starring in Hannah Montana) is yet another novelty country song, this time Lil Nas X's Old Town Road, which has dominated the charts across the globe in 2019. Billy Ray shows up on the remixed version that was released as a single, and that track stayed at number one on the Billboard Top 100 for an astonishing 19 weeks.

Even though Billy Ray Cyrus has never really taken a hiatus or stopped being involved in media, he's spent pretty much every year since his first big hit collaborating with other, hotter stars (including his own daughter). To his credit, it's kept him in the limelight, and stopped him from being known for a single track.
