8 Reasons Avicii's 'True' Album Deserves Every Bit Of The Hype

8. 'Wake Me Up' €“ Genre Mash Ups

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcrbM1l_BoI Staying true to his roots, Avicii's 'True' is chock-a-block with dance songs that are inherently catchy and listenable, with original hooks and sounds. One of the most interesting things Avicii has done with the album is to effectively 'genre hack', blending Avicii's dance sound with music straight out of 1940's Alabama...well, metaphorically anyway. Avicii has brought 'folktronica' (yes its a thing and no we didn't make that up) to the forefront of UK's radio play, and with it introducing many to a fresh new sound; a delicious blend of energetic dance beats and bluegrass guitar. Although we totally love the eccentric mix now, the genius of Avicii's genre-mashing was first introduced at his infamous performance at the Ultra Music Festival in March where he brought a bluegrass combo on stage with him...to the dismay of many fans. The blend included banjos and kazoos, with the whole shebang not being to the liking of those who had turned out for Avicii's dance style music - many branding his performance as a shambles. However, while it may have seemed like madness at the time, Avicii and his team stood up for the performance, which now makes a whole lot more sense now that the album has been released. Still, hats off to Avicii, it was a brave move that paid off.
