9 Bizarre Conspiracy Theories About Popular Musicians

4. Andrew WK Isn't Real

Party hard party hard party hard. So says Andrew WK in his 2001 single Party Hard, which dominated the radio upon release and went on to sell massively well. But there's a fairly elaborate theory out there that the artist Andrew WK is nothing more than a construct, created by music exectutives for profit.

In 2004, around the peak of Andrew WK's success, the musician's website was hacked by someone professing to be called Steev Mike. After a deluge of strange message (interepted as clues) were posted, the internet went a little bit crazy, attempting to deduce their meaning. Though this led to various interpretations, things didn't really kick off until fans themselves began noticing inconsistencies. According to several people who saw the musician at a concert in New Jersey, America, Andrew WK actually swapped 'actors' in the middle of a show, and the person who returned to the stage was merely someone dressed as Andrew WK. Not only that, but in 2008 Andrew WK appeared to confirm everyone's suspicions.
"Andrew W.K. was created by a large group of people. They met, and I was there, and we talked about how we could come up with something that would move people. It was done in the spirit of commerce. It was done in the spirit of entertainment, which usually goes hand in hand with commerce. I was auditioned, along side many other people, to fill this role of a 'great frontman', 'a great performer'. On the one hand it may be a little scary to admit this to you all, that I may not be exactly who you thought I was, and that the guy who was, in fact, first hired as Andrew W.K. is a different person than the guy sitting here on the stage tonight. I'm the next person who is playing Andrew W.K."

But then two years later he said: "I am Andrew W.K., the same that has been here from the beginning...I am the same Andrew W.K. at this appearance as at all Andrew W.K.-related appearances."

So what the truth is we still don't really know.
