9 Great Closing Tracks On Albums

5. Purple Rain - Purple Rain [Prince]

This album is one of the greatest pop albums of the 80s, with Prince creating everything from dance club anthems to sexy guitar funk. With 5 albums already under his belt at this point, Prince came to dominate the pop landscape with this record.

But he also wanted to expand his musical horizons. As the story goes, Prince was touring with Bob Seger and was intrigued at how Seger's songs seemed to be moving the crowd in a different way. Prince then decided to try to write a song like Seger's to capture that communal musical release.

What he came up with is one of the most epic songs he had even written. Prince takes the role of bandleader to the next level, almost sounding like a preacher as he sings about the perils of his former lover. Just when the emotional tension is at an all time high, Prince delivers a guitar solo that is one of the most emotive guitar pieces ever penned.

At that point, there was only one place for this track to end up, at the end of one the greatest party albums ever. Long Live the Purple One!!
