9 Hidden Details In Beatles Tracks You Never Noticed

4. "Yawn Paul" - I'm Only Sleeping

Full marks for staying on brand with this one. A wonderfully moody cut from the front end of Revolver, I’m Only Sleeping is a laconic, languid number that drifts along on a current of its own half-arsed lethargy.

And what better way to convey how bloody tired the Fab Four were than by having Paul McCartney do a proper big yawn in your unsuspecting earhole? Thing is though, don’t know about you, but sometimes I forget to yawn. Y’know, you’ve got a million things to do, you’ve been on your feet all day, and then it’s like ‘drat, I haven’t yawned in bloody ages’.

Luckily for Macca, he had somebody to remind him to get those jaws opened nice and wide in the studio. Around the 1.57 mark an uncredited Beatle says ‘Yawn, Paul’… and then he does. Simple, effective, A to B with no messing about. That’s the genius of the Beatles.
