9 Most Underrated Nirvana Songs

7. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter

Originally titled ‘Nine Month Media Blackout’, this ‘In Utero’ tune shows Nirvana’s sense of irony in a whole new light. Once again taking a shot at Vanity Fair writer Lynn HIrschberg, the song title was changed to ‘Radio Friendly Unit Shifter’ as that’s what Hirschberg referred to Nirvana and their fans as on a few occasions.

The irony of this song title comes into play once you release that is in fact not a radio friendly song at all. This is arguably Nirvana’s dirtiest sounding tune from their entire studio album discography, and walks the tightrope between grunge and noise rock precariously.

Unlike ‘Negative Creep’, ‘Radio Friendly Unit Shifter’ hasn’t had its reputation bolstered by a handful of high profile covers, and instead continues to sit firmly in Nirvana’s back catalogue as one of their most overlooked tunes even to this day.
