9 Most Underrated Nirvana Songs
2. Sliver
When Nirvana were asked to record a debut release by their label, Sub Pop, the original goal was to create an EP. However, Nirvana went into overkill mode and wrote dozens of tracks for a full length studio album.
This proved that the band were going to carry on writing no matter what and this was highlighted in the aftermath of their debut albums release, as Kurt wrote persistently throughout 1990. One of the lesser known singles from this calendar year is the one in question, ‘Sliver’, which was released in September 1990.
Barely hitting the two-minute mark, ‘Sliver’ was a non-album 7” single as is the only Nirvana release to feature Mudhoney’s Dan Peters on drums. This single also featured the first studio version of ‘Dive’, as well as live versions of ‘About A Girl’ and ‘Spank Thru’. ‘Sliver’ didn’t receive proper recognition until it was featured predominantly on Nirvana’s compilation album, ‘Incesticide’, which came out in 1992.
‘Dive’ was also featured on this compilation record but somehow now receives more recognition than the song it originally played second fiddle to.
