9 Rock Bands Who Hate Their Own Famous Songs
6. Deaf Havana - Friends Like These
Being one of the lesser known bands on this list, the UK's Deaf Havana will likely be a new name to a lot of readers.
Having formed in 2005, 'Friends Like These' was the lead single from the band's debut album and was unleashed onto the world in 2009. In the grand scheme of things, the single hardly made a splash, but it was impactful enough to cause a stir in the UK underground rock scene. Almost overnight, Deaf Havana had established themselves as a strong name for the future of British rock, but their feelings towards the song which allowed this to happen were always mixed.
As years went by, the members of the band started to distance themselves from the song, and the genre of crossover post-hardcore as a whole. Their second album, 'Fools and Worthless Liars', marked a sudden transition into soft rock, adopting a much more approachable sound compared to their prior hard-hitting style.
During the opening song of said album, 'The Past Six Years', the following lyrics can be heard in reference to 'Friends Like These':
Because I made plans of being more than just that band
Who had that song about friends and not much else
Not only were Deaf Havana feeling creatively contained by their label at the time, but they also had growing fears of becoming a 'one hit wonder', like so many other bands who burst onto the scene. Deaf Havana now have six studio albums to their name, with the latest being 'The Present is a Foreign Land'.
