9 Rock Bands Who Hate Their Own Famous Songs

5. Bon Jovi - Livin On A Prayer

At this stage, it would be safe to argue that Bon Jovi's most famous hit is probably more famous than the band themselves. Credited with bringing rock and glam metal to a mainstream audience, Bon Jovi have forged a formidable path as an important rock band through the decades, with a fair portion of this influence being generated by their 1986 megahit, 'Livin on a Prayer'.

Appearing on their third and most commercially successful record, 'Slippery When Wet', the song has gone on to become one of the most famous rock songs ever with 15 platinum certifications as a single, 15 million physical sales as part of 'Slippery When Wet' and earning over 1 billion Spotify streams.

However, the band never expected it to be this successful and weren't even sure they liked it when it was first recorded. When talking to the Irish Times, Jon Bon Jovi recalled that his initial reaction to hearing the final mix for the first time was "Eh, it’s okay." On the other hand, bandmate Richie Sambora saw its potential immediately, and called Bon Jovi an "idiot" for not liking it upon his first listen.
