4. Waco
It's not just the military that uses music to achieve victory during lengthy sieges. It's also often a device exploited by police forces, as when the DEA cornered the Branch Davidians at Waco in 1993. During a 51-day siege to smoke out David Koresh and his cult that ultimately resulted in the death of Koresh, 82 Branch Davidian members and four agents, music was played to try and end the stalemate. Records used included Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Are Made For Walkin', Billy Ray Cyrus' Achy Breaky Heart, a compilation of Andy Williams songs and a bunch of sing-a-long Christmas carols by Mitch Miller. Now THAT is a torturous list.
