9 Times The Grammy Awards Chose Its Metal Poorly
1. 2015: Tenacious D - The Last In Line
Completing the cover song trifecta is the most ludicrous among them, as Tenacious D had no right being nominated. I spent almost half this list putting down Metallica but would have been more okay with the nomination of the “Ronnie Rising Medley” from the same tribute album.
Thinking further into the circumstances only induces further rage, with the immediate thought being that Dio, whether a part of Black Sabbath / Heaven and Hell or performing solo, was never among the nominees for the award, despite remaining largely active right until his death in 2010.
Secondly, apparently not even death could encourage the Academy to award Motorhead the statue for their own song (see the previous entry), though that's not to say that the song deserved the award as a consolation prize or by its own merit.
Third, and most importantly, EVERYONE released an album during the consideration period. The fact that this song was not only nominated but WON over everything else that year is baffling beyond words.
