AC/DC - EVERY Album Ranked Worst To Best
13. Fly on the Wall (1985)
An often underrated entry in AC/DC’s history, Fly on the Wall released in 1985 with a mixed reception. Critically the album was generally regarded as mediocre compared to the stand out albums of recent memory.
While the fan response to the album was not as negative, the album is nowhere close to being as iconic as its predecessors. This album also continues the decline in frequency of AC/DC albums first seen with 1983’s Flick of the Switch, going from yearly albums to bi-yearly albums. This gap would increase with AC/DC’s next album, Blow Up Your Video, not being released until 1988.
The album featured three singles: Danger, Sink the Pink and Shake Your Foundations. These tracks are all solid, with Sink the Pink being the stand out single from Fly on the Wall. The album tracks also provide a good showing, with the songs Playing with Girls and Back in Business being highlights.
Perhaps the biggest mystery is why the album’s title song, Fly on the Wall, was never released as a single. The song is easily the best the album has to offer, featuring some solid guitar work from the Young brothers, an excellent drumming presence from Simon Wright and an ever great vocal performance from Brain Johnson.
