All Gorillaz Albums Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Humanz
The sixth album by Gorillaz, entitled Humanz, released in 2017 to critical acclaim, debuting at number two on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. The album contained some heavy political themes mixed into a number of bombastic dance songs like Ascension and Strobelite that helped to solidify Gorillaz in the club scene.
The reason why Humanz is listed here below most of the band's other work is because of the total lack of appearances from Gorillaz's main vocalist, Damon Albarn, as well as the general switch away from story-telling and clever lyricism in favour of more dance-oriented songs. This isn't to say that the lyrics on this album are devoid of meaning, quite the opposite, in fact this album is one of the most philosophically heavy dance records ever made, but the fast paced, bouncy nature of everything keeps it from having as much of an emotional impact as their other work.
Some highlights of this album include the psychedelic Saturnz Barz, which has one of their best music videos, featuring the band flying through space and being tormented by various monsters, as well as the few songs where Albarn appears prominently. Andromeda and She's My Collar are good examples.
