All Gorillaz Albums Ranked From Worst To Best
5. The Now Now
The Now Now stands out from Gorillaz's other work as being their most happy-sounding project to date. The upbeat, positive style of the album is fully encapsulated by the music video for the first song, Humility. In the video, we see 2-D casually roller-skating around L.A. on a sunny day, basically the essence of what this album feels like.
The synth-pop instrumentals and chill vocals of songs like Sorcererz and Hollywood made The Now Now into the band's most upbeat, feel-good album yet. The song Tranz also reminds listeners that Gorillaz can still make incredible dance music, though most of the other songs are fairly subdued.
After Humanz, it was also nice to see Damon Albarn return to the centre stage. The Now Now has noticeably fewer features which takes away from the versatility of the project but helps make it feel more personal to the band, similar to their older work. The dip in creative story-telling is the only thing that keeps The Now Now from being one of their best projects.
