Alter Bridge: 10 Toughest Tremonti Solos NO ONE Else Can Play

5. Blackbird

This entry goes to show that there's far more to good soloing than reckless abandon and wild 10-minute shred-a-thons.

Where the composition really shines through is in its 'soul' - the heart and feeling that goes into the playing, be it vibrant and energising or, in this case, slow-moving and sorrowful.

'Blackbird' is often cited to be the best Alter Bridge song, which is quite the achievement in and of itself. But when the song's duel solo by Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti gets voted the best guitar solo of ALL TIME by Guitarist magazine in 2011, you know it has to be for a very good reason.

And if you've heard the song, you'll know immediately just how much meaning goes into this crooning, aching guitar centrepiece of the 8-minute epic. Myles starts it off with a soulful melody, which Mark then takes over to a surge in emotional dynamics.

There's a healthy mix of fast and slow playing here, but Tremonti makes the notes sing like nightingales whichever the case. And if you think you can duplicate that level of raw emotion just by looking up the tabs on Ultimate Guitar...you can think again.
