5. Metalingus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-I8ALlYxdY The song that gave them their big break, Metalingus was caught on by the WWE (at the time, WWF) to be used as popular wrestler Edge's entrance theme. Thankfully, the band were happy to oblige, and even guest-starred in a couple of backstage segments, getting their faces out there. Metalingus itself is a complete barnstormer of a track, hinting at the direction the band were going to go when it came to indulging in Mark Tremonti's love for heavy metal. The version of the song that made it onto wrestling broadcasts actually started with the heaviest part of the track and segued into the chorus, but in reality such a fantastically anarchic section comes right at the end, right before you think it's all over - just for one last ride. Why you need it: Their most reputable track, it tends to be make people go "Ohhh I LOVE that song, THAT's Alter Bridge?!", but it's also a highpoint on the first album, and the first song I'm sure got thousands of you into the band in the first place.
