Alter Bridge: 11 Things You Probably Didn't Know

6. Words Darker Than Their Wings Isn't About A Relationship

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc0xQStQxfc Okay, song fact time. We've covered this in a piece about which songs you should give people to get them into the band, but as it's one of the most well-written and introspectively thought-provoking they've ever written, it's worth a mention here to. The entire song was actually inspired by a conversation both Myles and Mark had on the road about the nature of believing in some eternal power awaiting us on the other side. In turning these thoughts into this wondrous track, Myles takes on the side of the non-believer whilst Tremonti's lyrics speak of being unsure, but still hoping. The brilliant bit though is in the lyrics themselves, which as they're addressing each other directly, it's easily misinterpreted as a ballad about a lost love - which couldn't be farther from the truth.
