New Alter Bridge Album: 8 Incredible Things To Look Forward To

4. Mark's Alter Bridge Riffs Are Always Something Else

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bI6YObp4NI Tremonti's solo albums are just perfect. Anthemically sung, heavy as a dinosaur's hangover - good, honest hard rock with the perfect amount of roll. Tracks like Tie the Noose and Sympathy prove he can write some of the best choruses in the game, and riffs like Another Heart and Cauterize retain a brutal sensibility that feels right at home outside of AB Towers, whilst maintaining his identity across the board. That said though, think of the likes of Peace is Broken's intro, One Day Remains' finger-mangling wizardry, the immediately-recognisable Come to Life - or absolute God-wakening slam of Isolation. There's just something about his approach to riffs when writing for and with Alter Bridge, that brings out a completely different side to his playing. The solo albums are a different mindset, a more simplistic approach in a sense - it's more about ramping up the distortion and double bass pedals to tap directly into that age-old thrash-like sensibility, forgetting about technicality to just produce the most sonically brutal-sounding 'thing' possible. It's all bloody brilliant - the face-slapping intro of Cauterize proves in abundance what the power of an open E string can have in 2015 - but there's definitely something to be said for how Tremonti divides his songs between solo material and AB, the latter of which I'm sure we all can't wait to hear more of.
